Sermon Notes from Senior Pastor, Dr. Rick Lineberger
"Mom Has Influence"
Psalm 127:3
Point #1
Accept your child as a gift from God (Psalm 127:3)
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
- Every life has purpose (Psalm 139:13-16)
13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
- The gift becomes a stewardship (1 Corinthians 4:2)
2 Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.
Point #2
Teach your child the importance of their choices (Proverbs 24:3-6)
3 By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; 4 by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
5 A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might, 6 for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance
of counselors there is victory.
- Establish boundaries for their lives.
- Teach them that their choices have consequences (Galatians 6:7)
7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.
- Teach them how to choose their friends (1 Corinthians 15:33)
33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
Point #3
Teach your child to depend on God everyday (Psalm 78:5-7)
5 He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children,
6 that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, 7 so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments;
- Teach them how they can have a personal relationship with Jesus (2 Timothy 1:5)
5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in
you as well.
- Teach your child to love the Lord and His Word (Psalm 119:97,105)
97 Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Point #4
Never stop praying for your child (Luke 18:1)
1 And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.
- Bring God’s prevailing power into your family through prayer
