Sermon Notes from Senior Pastor, Dr. Rick Lineberger

"Mom Has Influence"

Psalm 127:3

Point #1

Accept your child as a gift from God (Psalm 127:3)

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,

the fruit of the womb a reward.

  • Every life has purpose (Psalm 139:13-16)

13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

  • The gift becomes a stewardship (1 Corinthians 4:2)

Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.

Point #2

Teach your child the importance of their choices (Proverbs 24:3-6)

By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might, for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance

of counselors there is victory.

  • Establish boundaries for their lives.

  • Teach them that their choices have consequences (Galatians 6:7)

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.

  • Teach them how to choose their friends (1 Corinthians 15:33)

33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

Point #3

Teach your child to depend on God everyday (Psalm 78:5-7)

He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children,

that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments;

  • Teach them how they can have a personal relationship with Jesus (2 Timothy 1:5)

I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in

you as well.

  • Teach your child to love the Lord and His Word (Psalm 119:97,105)

97 Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.

105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Point #4

Never stop praying for your child (Luke 18:1)

And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.

  • Bring God’s prevailing power into your family through prayer
